New York Fashion in London

The V & A (which hosts an amazing fashion collection) just premiered a new exhibit, titled "New York Fashion Now"

The exhibit is filled with 20th and 21st century young designers hailing from NYC, and specialising designers included are:

Atelier: Jean Yu, Lost Art, Costello Tagliapietra, Maggie Norris
Menswear: Duckie Brown, John Varvatos, Cloak, Thom Browne
Sportswear: Zac Posen, Proenza Schouler, Mary Ping, Behnaz Sarafpour, Derek Lam Avant Garde:Slow and Steady Wins the Race, Tess Giberson, Three As Four, Miguel Adrover

A few side notes:

Zac Posen(who's student work is also featured in the permanent collection!!)rules the contemporary market with his flirty and sexy women's ready to wear, as well as just launched a handbag and shoe collection, and honored by Saks Fifth Avenue (see post in archives)

Behnaz Sarafpour most famously launched a holiday collection for Target. Known for her downtown aesthetic with a polished finishing touch.

Costello Tagliapietra gets inspiration from the late great Halston

So if you live in London or are traveling this summer, go see this show! Should be a good one. Try and see the fashion and textiles museum near Borough Market.

Can new fresh designers help fix the Gap?

Gap has announced a limited edition "white shirt" line to be launched April 17Th by three hot young designers: Doo-Ri, Rodarte and Thakoon. After disappointing sales over the holidays and two failed promotions since, is this just the right buzz to get sales going over at the Gap?

Each designer has taken their own approach on the basic white button down blouse. To get a feel for what the aesthetics of these designers are, here some examples:

Repetto!

I am sure you have seen their ballet flats in a few botiques around the US, but this French shoe brand is pushing their line torwards the fashion savvy with heels and boots despite their dance shoe roots. (Yes, Im so excited I even rhyme now!)

The good news for us is, they really know how to make a comfortable shoe! The leather is suple, and the sole has a grip so falling is less likely!

You can buy them now at upscale and downtown cool department store Liberty London.

Some Pretty Cool Tees

If you like art, and love t-shirts, here is a great brand for you. LA based, "The Secession" represents all that is good in LA lounge wear. Here are a few pictures from their show in Miami.

For more information on where to buy art or the clothing, go to The Secession's website

1940s Goth

The new goth has a 1940s spin. No one saw this one coming. Tailored suiting with oxford lace-up pumps, hats, gloves, belted knee-length skirts, turbans, satins, scalloped satin blouses, high-waisted wide-legged trousers paired with dark lips, chain necklaces, black wigs and black opaque tights.

The use of orange and green is a direct comment on the 1940s era.
