Fresh Faces

Last night, I went to the Fresh Faces in Fashion Spring 2007 show, produced by GenART, and I have one absolute favorite!

Katy Rodriguez Stood out the most to me, as I have seen many of her pieces at trendy Diavolina on Robertson. Katy branched off from the Resurrection Vintage company to start her own line.

Katy's perfect fall jumper (as seen on Ashlee Simpson and Elisha Cuthpert) has made her name stand out in the contemporary fashion community. Her Spring collection was not as impressive as fall '06, but it was beautifully tailored and stood out compared to the others. Let's hope this label can expand as it represents what LA fashion has to offer!

Best dressed list?

People has come out with their annual "Best Dressed" list. Usually, I agree with their choices, but come on, Jennifer Aniston as #1? That woman's wardrobe is as boring as plain yogurt!

And what is Eva Longoria doing on the list? That woman has no style or tact.

Where are all the chic women? Thank goodness Kate Moss and Charlize Theron got a mention.

BUT where is Rachel Bilson? Or Micha Barton, Ashley Olsen, or Lindsay Lohan? Snubbed?

People Magazine played it safe, electing the same boring women every year. Boo!

Bargain of the Week

I just picked up these babies from Steve Madden! They are the perfect fall wedge, and might I add, DAMN comfortable! No wonder these 5 inch blocks are flying down the runways!

You can buy them online here.

I am in love with these as well:

Unfortunately they are on Pre-Sale, so I will have to wait a few weeks till they hit stores.

Go Steve! Good job this Fall Season

Fall's getting tricky

Now that summer is dwindling down, you may start to see the beginning pieces from the Fall collections in your favorite stores. There are many new shapes this year, and some may be confusing to put together.

Here are some worry-free tips to get you looking fashion-ready for fall in no time.

SKINNY LEG PANTS:

1.) When wearing skinny pants, no matter what shape you are, balance them out with a flowy top and chunky heels.

2.) Skinny pants also look chic and casual with ballet flats, a flowy tank paired with a cropped sweater.

I recommend these J Brand jeans:

Sold at RonHerman

The black stretch fabric is chic enough to wear out at night with heels,
but the jean pocket details give it a casual look for day.

Wide-Leg Trousers:

As with the skinny leg, it is all about balancing out your shape. If you have a wide leg pant, you will need a fitted blouse/tee on top.

**Think of a modern day Katherine Hepburn.
The masculine pant paired with an ultra feminine top gives this new fall trend the right look. It is all about extremes mixed together.

I adore these wide leg trousers by Alice+Olivia:

You can buy them here.

Sweater Dresses:

Yes, they have long awaited a comeback, and designers have finally made them wearable for everyone! The trick is layering them over blouses, skinny pants, leggings or tights and throw on a belt. The look is disheveled yet preppie.
**If you are fabulously daring, throw on a sweater dress with a pair of cut-off tights and ankle boots for a new you that will have all the savvy tongues wagging.

My favorite is this Alexander Wang:

Sold only in a few trendy LA boutiques

Bubble Dresses:

Beautiful, flattering, and comfortable! What is there NOT to love about this new silhouette?
**To make your look stand out for Fall/Winter, wear black tights and a chunky platform.

This Adam+Eve dress is brilliantly done:

See their website for more information

Ankle boots:

The fashion weary may want to sit this season out. The ankle boot is the hottest trend for fall, but it may take time for people to come around to it.
**Wear with the least amount of skin showing! Throw these on with a pair of skinny leg pants, leggings or tights and poof, you're effortlessly chic.

These Christian Louboutin's are almost edible:

Pick them up (if you have any luck) at Bergdorf's
That's all for now. Promise to update more often. Enjoy what's left of summer and happy Fall shopping!

Store Review: Decades

Decades
8214 Melrose Ave,
Los Angeles 90046

Tag line: Split-level vintage house makes the dream of owning designer clothing a reality.

On a lovely Friday afternoon, a girlfriend and I strolled into Decades, a supposed gold-mine of celebrity hand me downs and designer goods galore. We got buzzed in and my previous excitement was quicky replaced with disappointment as I saw how little merchandise there was and how high the prices were. It was interesting to see old seasons masterpieces hanging on the racks again yet the prices seemed over the top high for what it was: used designer clothing. Even though I was disappointed with the clothing selection, I knew my fire would light up when I saw the shoes, yet again they were very sparse, probably selling only 15 pairs! At least now I can say I've been to Decades, and I'm sure that popping in once in a while I will find something I fancy. Id recommend going to Maxfield Bleu on Robertson if you want designer duds at remarkable prices. Think Prada Sport, Marni, Gucci, and Lanvin merchandise from its cousin, Maxfield on Melrose.

Hi-Low concept

I am a believer in finding good replicas of a certain trend, but lately I've been getting annoyed at how fast the cheap stores can put out a copy of the real designer item. It seems like they cancel each other out and magically a trend vanishes way before it even blossomed. Case in point: Short Shorts with rolled up hems; before the season even began there were the most beautiful See by Chloe khaki shorts and then the that week Forever 21 had the SAME style short! Same with those patent cork platforms Christian Louboutin put out that were absolutely edible, the next thing you know Steve Madden had the same pair. It is a positive and negative because those who love fashion can afford it now, but what is to separate the true fashionistas from the average mall shopper? Just a thought.

Fashion Rumor

New designer for GO international: Target

So the new buzz going around is that the new designer to take over the Go: International program for Target is Tara Jarmon, from Paris.

I think she is just so so. To me this looks like Banana Republic or something equally plain. She does not have the edge that Luella has, nor the reputation, so I don't think people will be as excited for the debut of this collection. Bummer, I thought the rumor about Proenza Schuller doing a line would be true.

Karl Lagerfeld

Karl has come out with his own contemporary line. Price range is $100-$500.

Everything is very basic, using black and white, similar to his Chanel, except way more casual. Some pieces look like Guess circa '99, others pieces are amazing.

(Like this dress $475.00)

So where can you get this line? Try Neiman Marcus or Saks Fifth Ave.

H&M

For those of you on the west coast with savvy taste on a budget, the most fabulous of all bargain stores is coming to LA. Yes, they have announced several locations to all open by the end of this year! One store is going to be placed at the Beverly Center, the other in Hollywood.
