1940s Goth

The new goth has a 1940s spin. No one saw this one coming. Tailored suiting with oxford lace-up pumps, hats, gloves, belted knee-length skirts, turbans, satins, scalloped satin blouses, high-waisted wide-legged trousers paired with dark lips, chain necklaces, black wigs and black opaque tights.

The use of orange and green is a direct comment on the 1940s era.

Oh, the glamour of it!

These days, necklaces are making bigger statements than the clothes they are worn with. Marc Jacobs, Marni, Missoni, Pucci, Chloe and Stella McCartney are all putting their signature hand on chunky necklaces to go along with their clothing. High end stores are increasingly expanding their Fashion Jewelry Departments. What is great is you can wear these pieces during the day with just a simple outfit and still look smart. Isn't fashion all about versatility and ease? Well, with these pieces, it could be!

A Bit Hazy

Along the streets in Paris, I saw women in their basic chic black- but with one big difference: Grey tights!

WWD has their cover model wearing grey tights on Wednesday's paper:

As well, grey tights have shown up in Balenciaga and Marni for Fall 2007

I really like the idea behind them. Easy to wear with your existing wardrobe because of their versatility. The grey, because it is so neutral, breaks up the black without looking off.

Japan's Fashion Week

Where art and fashion meet. Finally, there is more international coverage for the event, unlike years previous. A huge wave of fashion innovators is coming out of Japan, and the world of fashion is ready to embrace it!

If The Jazz Shoe Fits...

You can wear menswear shoes and still look girly, but with an edge. Take a look at Alice Temperley's Spring line:

In a season all about legs, we are seeing the hemlines rise so high, it would be wrong and may I say vulgar to wear anything other than flats for daytime.
(The rules have changed slightly for heels + mini at night)

If you are ready to burn your ballet flats, or just want a change, try pairing your mini shift dresses with jazz shoes! They may seem a bit odd but many fashion lovers are coming around to them, and with the 1940s look on the rise, jazz shoes will be staying in trend for Fall.

The best part is, they do not cost much! Here are a few great pairs by Steve Madden and topshop:

I would not wear black jazz shoes in order to avoid looking live you've just come from dance class.

The silver and white ones are all over stores in Paris and London. I especially love the white patent ones, if you can find them! What's great is you can still wear them with tights or skinny jeans on a cold day.
